7 Guns that Changed the World (AKA “The Magnificent Seven”) – 4 Hours $125

(Maximum 12 Participants)

Join us at OnTarget Range for an exciting and enlightening evening of firearm familiarization fire. For your enjoyment, we have selected seven of the world’s most extraordinary firearms including pistols and rifles. Participants will have the opportunity to sample each firearm and will shoot the following: .44 magnum Smith & Wesson, Glock 17 9mm, .45 1911 Springfield, M1A rifle, .308 Springfield, AR-15 carbine, AK 47 and Remington 700. What a fun night at OnTarget Range!

Class Requirements:

  • You must be at least 18 years of age unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
  • All firearms and ammunition will be provided by OnTarget.
  • Bring eye and ear protection or purchase from our Pro Shop.
  • Wear proper shooting attire (crew neck shirt and closed toe, high traction shoes) for range portion of class

A FOID card is not necessary for this class.

McHenry County IDNR Hunter Safety Class – 2-Day Seminar – “Safety is no accident!”

(Maximum 12 Participants)

(Dates to be determined by the IDNR)

You must call the instructor listed on the IDNR website to register for this class.

There is no charge for this informative 2-day seminar on hunter safety, which covers the IDNR requirements for obtaining a Hunting license the first time. The certificate is valid for North American. All students must attend both class sessions.

Do not bring personal firearms or ammunition to class sessions.

Registration takes place on weekends only.

You will need to provide the following information at the time of your phone registration.

  • Full legal name including middle initial
  • Age
  • Evening phone number
  • Information regarding any special needs or requirements

All students aged ten and under must be accompanied by a responsible person sixteen or older during the classes. The instructors recommend a minimum reading comprehension and vocabulary level of the fifth grade. Attendance at all of the sessions of a class is required. Attendance and the passing of the test are not the only criteria judged for the successful completion of the program and certification.

Class Requirements:

  • Paper, pencil and/or pen
  • Beverages (There is a pop/bottled water machine in the Pro Shop and coffee is 50₵/cup in the break area.)
  • Bring snacks including a larger snack or sandwich for mid-afternoon meal (30-minute break).
  • Bring a great learning attitude!

VirTra V100 Virtual Handgun Training Simulator – 30 to 60 Minutes – $30 to $60

You are in a crowded movie theater waiting for the show to start. Just before the lights dim, a gun-wielding assailant enters through the side exit. You, as an armed concealed carry permit holder, have a split second decision to make!

The scenario above is one of many designed to test judgment and marksmanship all within the safe, air-conditioned confines of an OnTarget classroom. If you are looking for a dynamic firearms training experience without wasting a single live round, you need to try out the V100, a critical training tool once used exclusively by the police and military.

Individuals, couples, or small groups of friends can schedule a time for an OnTarget associate to present multiple virtual shooting scenarios. For youngsters and adults alike, the V100 also offers non-intimidating skill building marksmanship exercises. Another great feature about the V100 training simulator is that you do not need a FOID card, firearm, or ammo to participate!

NOTE: For small groups over 4 shooters, an additional $10 will be charged for each additional shooter. For example, a group of 6 individuals rotating on the V100 for one hour will be charged a total of $60 for the hour and an additional $20 for the 2 extra shooters. Total charge = $80
A FOID card is not required when participating in a virtual shooting experience.

How to Defend Your Home I – 4 Hours $150

(Maximum 12 Participants)

This revealing seminar serves as an important step for those self-sufficient folks who seek to defend their castle. OnTarget instructors will deliver an introduction to practical shooting and self-defense skills covering many real world situations that a person my encounter. How to defend your home, deter potential stalkers or attackers, and avoid potentially dangerous situations, are just several of the topics to be covered. During the lecture portion of the class, participants will also learn Illinois statutes regarding self-defense and the appropriate use of deadly force. The final hour of the seminar will be dedicated to practical shooting situations. Students will review pistols and be familiarized with the shotgun. This is a necessary and practical seminar for all those who refuse to be victims.

Class Requirements:

  • You must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Participants must be a graduate of an OnTarget basic handgun class.
  • Firearms and ammunition will be provided by OnTarget but you are welcome to bring your own pistol or shotgun.
  • Bring eye and ear protection.
  • Wear proper shooting attire (crew neck shirt and closed toe, high traction shoes) for range portion of class

A FOID card is not necessary.

The Intrepid Traveler (Dangerous Environments) – 8 Hours – $175

(Minimum 4 to Maximum 10 Participants)

A number of our customers often travel to dangerous overseas environments for business or pleasure. In an effort to keep those individuals safe in their travels, OnTarget developed this timely, practical, and lifesaving class. During this 8-hour seminar, the following topics will be addressed:

  • Rifles and pistols found around the world (familiarization fire included)
  • Personal security countermeasures and defensive tactics
  • Anti-kidnapping driving techniques
  • Emergency first aid techniques
  • Terrorist assassination and kidnapping operations

This class is presented by Tom Dorsch, OnTarget Director of Operations, who has served as a State Department Special Agent and Security Advisor in high threat environments throughout the world. The class is open to the public regardless of occupation.
